Queen Saturday is here again, and we are talking to Miss Voluptuous finalist Lauren Sexton on her pageant journey! Have a read and you might change your habits on the environment! The Miss V finals is focused on platforms, creating beauty as well as a purpose behind that amazing crown!
1. How did you get into pageants and what is your current title?
My pageant journey started in 2014 when I entered the Face of Europe and the World, Face of Dorset heat. This was to give myself the confidence boost I needed. I stayed with this system until last year where I entered the first ever Miss Voluptuous Pageants UK finals! Since Mid April 2017 I have been working hard to pursue the title. Last year I was lucky enough to place top 10, best in fashion wear, best application and Miss Congeniality. So this year I have returned to show how I have grown.

2. What is your platform and how have you been promoting this with your title?
My platform is Plastic Awareness and how it affects local environment. I have been working hard with beach cleans, attending meeting within the community to show where plastic can be lowered and how it affects our community. I set my self a 200 Bag Challenge to help clean up the beach, and community areas on the Isle of Wight where I live. I have to date cleared 247 bags!
With more community cleans booked in and my self-running a marine way clean for Isle of Wight day on 22nd September, where this year we are going to be doing the largest beach clean in the world which is 67 miles long (round the whole island). Within my sons primary school we have started a weekly community clean to help teach the children parents that waste is affecting the community.
I have set challenges on social media to help get others involved to highlight how important it is to stop using single use plastics where possible. For example, using on bottle of Water from the shop can take over 1000 years to break down, NEVER disappearing! But it takes 3Ltrs of water and 1ltr of oil to produce. Ditching your single use plastic bags will mean that you can help stop with the 1million plastic bags used every 1minute around the world.
3.What have you been doing in the lead up to the finals and what would you continue to do if you win?
This year I have been working hard to promote my platform and the companies that are supporting my journey ( Sexton Photography, Canditastics Boutique, Love healing south coast, Future Gothic.) I have travelled up and down the UK to support other systems, attend events. I became a volunteer for Isle of Wight Pride, where I have been working hard to help promote equality for all regardless of your sexuality, or gender. After a long couple days setting up the event and clear down I am now part of the IW Pride Volunteer management team. And looking forward to the year ahead.
If, I was lucky to hear my name called out on 30th September. Firstly I would be in ore that I had been selected to represent the title for the year. I have contacted my local MP to get a learning scheme rolled out into school to help education child about the main 3’rs (Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce.) with more schools helping the clean up the community. I would continue with beach and marine way cleans, helping education those that attend what they can do each day to help with the plastic war.
4. What would you say to girls looking to enter pageants?
I would say to anyone looking to enter a pageant to do your research on the system to make sure you’re happy with their mission statement, what they stand for. Pageants are underestimated a lot, you need to be YOU. Don’t fake it to win. But entering pageantry was one the best decision I have ever made. The ladies you compete with become your sisters/ close friends. You’re able to take your cause out of your local area to help show others.
Thanks to pageant I personally have gained a much needed confidence boost and knowledge that I have been able to apply to my working and university life. Having friends all around the world and UK that I am able to visit.
