Pretty as a Prom Queen: Miss Prom Staffrodshire and the finalists vying for the title

This weeks Queen Saturday goes to the lovely ladies of the Miss Prom Staffordshire, which was set up by Debbie Hughes and Stephanie Wood, to offer local girls the opportunity to compete in a pageant close to them, in one of the biggest venues in Stoke on Trent. Last year the finalists raised over 10,000 for the local The Douglas Macmillian Hospice. This year the charity will be The Peter Pan Centre, a centre for young children with special needs. In the lead up to the competition they also offer coaching and training, led by Miss Teen Staffordshire Heidi Leake as well as be in the chance to win a 12 month gym membership, evening gown of her choice by Kiss Me Kate, model for a year with The Prom Dressing Room and other amazing prizes! We spoke to a few of the finalists about their pageant journey to the end goal of Miss Prom Staffordshire as well as the current winner!!

Heather Jordan- Current Miss Prom Staffordshire
How did it feel to win?
I was in shook more than anyth8ing. I entered the pageant with the matter in mind of building up my confidence and proving to myself that I mattered just as much as anyone else. Winning was just an added bonus. It felt amazing to win and I would love to go back and relive that night!
What have you done with your title so far?
I wanted to use my year to help raise money for charities close to my heart, promote others and help other girls with their own confidence battles. I have attended numerus other pageant finals, I have been asked to judge talent competitions, model for clothing companies and held my own charity events in the process. I wanted to take any opportunity I could to promote my title of Miss Prom Staffordshire and show how proud I was to be given such a title.
What advice would you give to the contestants competing?
The main thing would be to enjoy every second of the night. To remember that winning isn’t always the most important thing, just entering and being a part of a night that does so much for local girls and charities!
Lucy Andrews- Finalist
Why did you enter Miss Prom Staffordshire? I entered Miss Prom Staffordshire to help me with my confidence, which so far I have gained loads from doing the pageant. I also entered the competition to make new friends and raise money for a worthwhile charity.
What have you done in the lead up to the final? This year I hope to raise as much money as I can for the Peter Pan Centre and continue to meet new people and make lifelong friendships. So far, I have enjoyed all the experiences within the lead up to the finals, such as the catwalk days and taking part in the Bridal Fayre at Freeport Shopping Centre. Everyone is supportive and I’m excited for the night of the finals to meet the judges and have a new experience of pageantry.
Becky Williams- Finalist
Why did you enter Miss Prom Staffordshire? I applied for this pageant after hearing about the great success in 2017. I researched more into the competition as I had never done anything like this before and I really took an interest into it. I love the catwalking and modelling side to it, I have had photoshoots before but mainly from my dancing background .
What would you do if you won the title? If I won, I would represent Staffordshire with my title for as many things as I could to show that I am proud and want to support as many things as possible. I’d love to be a rolemodel to other girls and increase peoples confidence to apply for these kinds of pageants, as it’s not only a great experience but an opportunity to make new friends. Along with supporting as many charities around Staffordshire as I can, with putting on my own events or attending others. I’m really grateful to be a finalist and can’t wait for the finals!!
 Chloe Hutchinson- Finalist.
Why did you enter Miss Prom Staffordshire? I thought entering a local pageant would be so much fun and give me a brilliant experience, also a great opportunity to meet new people and get involved. I have always been quite shy and I thought entering the pageant would give me more confidence and build on my self-esteem.
What would you do if you won the title? Miss Prom Staffordshire is a charity pageant so if I ever get to be as lucky to actually win the title I would love to be involved in promoting the charity locally and help out wherever I could to bring awareness. I would want to be actively involved raising money for local good causes and be involved and help those less fortunate than myself. Also I would hope to be a good role model for young teenage girls who may not be confident about themselves and be able to show them if someone like me who is shy can do this then they could too.
Sophee Pender-Cadman- Finalist
Why did you enter Miss Prom Staffordshire? I have always wanted to do modelling since I was 13 but with my gymnastics life been so busy I never did it but was always watching next top model shows! Since I had my children I knew that modelling and pageants was what I wanted to do, I knew that now was my time to show people that if you have children you can still do it,entering the miss Staffordshire prom pageant was a way of showing that! It's also a challenge and I love a challenge. I have never cat walked before so this experience is all new to me and I am very excited that this will take me further in my modelling career. It’s also great to show your personality off, to show your allegiance and of course a little bit off sass.

What would you do if you won the title? If I were to win Miss Prom Staffordshire it would be a dream come true! I've dreamed about this when I was little so to actually do it would just be amazing. Just to help and inspire just even one person would be a dream to me. I will be definitely taking my pageant career further,it's just a beautiful experience, so many lovely friends people you meet all in the same boat as you wanting the same thing to win and for your name to be up there! It would honestly be a dream!

We wish all the best of luck for a wonderful show! The finals are on the 31st August and open to woman aged 15-25, with no restrictions on weight, height or if you have children but you do need a connection with Staffordshire! Find them on facebook for more details!
