Queen Saturday: This girl is on fire! Ms Earth Fire

Queen Saturday and we are here with Lyndsey Beckwith, who has recently coming back from Las Vegas after placing at the Ms Earth International and gaining the title of Ms Earth Fire. If you haven't been around pageantry for long, Lyndsey was part of the pageants in which DQ Events folded, leaving girls without their international places, but with the support of the pageant community and some generous people, our girls were able to make it to America! We asked Ms Earth Fire a few questions about her pageant journey!

What made you start competing in pageants?

I first started pageants to rediscover my self-esteem and to make new friends, and quickly found I loved being able to support other women and girls just like me to achieve their goals and ambitions. A friend entered me into my first pageant - I had no self-confidence or belief and was terrified, embarrassed and overwhelmed! Around that time I was struggling to cope with a personal ordeal, but will be forever grateful to my friend for pushing me out of my comfort zone. She knew I’d love the experience despite my fears and could start towards healing. After graduating I thought my time in pageantry was over (at that time the age-limit was quite low). I moved to Scotland for my career, which was exciting but daunting; I was no longer considered ‘young’ and felt pressure to ‘have it together’, was miles away from home and had to start from scratch with friends. I threw myself back into pageantry which kept me busy, grew my self-esteem again and the more I gave, the more amazing opportunities came along.

What is your current title and what have you been doing to prepare for the finals?

I achieved the international title of Ms Earth Fire recently in Las Vegas, after being crowned as Ms Scotland Earth 17/18 at the UK finals. Although I’m now a ‘Ms’, I feel more confident and sure of my abilities now than ever before. Pageants have definitely shaped who I am for the better, and the skills I’ve learned translate into all areas of my life. I can truly say that thanks to Pageants I have learned to love myself again - twice! I have been all over the UK judging and attending pageants, as well as working on my platform.

Do you have a platform and if so what are you doing to promote it

My platform is addressing inequality, which has me working with many varied groups and causes; one example of work I do in this area is my ongoing charity campaign - which has so far collected over 200 items of warm clothing to donate to homeless people in the UK.

What is your proudest moment in your pageantry journey?

There have been so many proud moments, it’s hard to choose just one! I think it will be hard to beat being awarded Peace Ambassador for Scotland in Korea’s DMZ, and having the honour of spreading the message of peace and prosperity through civic duties.

Lastly any advice for people looking to start pageants?

My advice to pageant newbies is don’t worry about others or compare yourself to them, and look at Pageants as an opportunity to be YOUR best. In my experience what counts is knowing yourself, not being afraid to give your all and to never stop learning!
